How To Properly Store A Costume

When a costume is not in use, it's important to store it properly to ensure that it stays in good condition for future use. Here are some steps you can take to properly store your costume:

1. Clean The Costume

Before storing, make sure the costume is clean and free of any stains or debris.

2. Hang Or Fold The Costume

Depending on the type of costume, it can be hung on a padded hanger or folded and placed in a storage container.

3. Use Acid-Free Tissue Paper

Use acid-free tissue paper to stuff any parts of the costume that need support, such as sleeves, bodices, or hats. This will help prevent any creases or wrinkles from forming.

4. Store In A Cool, Dry Place

Store the costume in a cool, dry place that is protected from sunlight, moisture, and insects. Avoid storing in an attic or basement where temperature and humidity levels may fluctuate.

5. Use A Breathable Storage Container

If you choose to store the costume in a container, make sure it is breathable, such as a fabric garment bag or acid-free storage box. This will prevent any mold or mildew from forming.

6. Avoid Plastic Bags

Avoid storing the costume in plastic bags or containers, as these can trap moisture and cause damage to the costume.

By following these steps, you can help ensure that your costume remains in good condition and is ready for use the next time you need it.
